Newsprinters occupy three sites; Eurocentral near Glasgow; Knowsley near Liverpool and Broxbourne in Hertfordshire. Turner FM has worked alongside the Newsprinters staff and included local communities to create biodiversity areas at each of the sites.

The aim of this Project was to provide a Fit for Purpose, modern,

Part of our community engagement plan involves voluntary
conservation days for staff, amounting to 140 hours over the past
year. During May 2010, three voluntary days were organised as part of our Sustainability campaign to raise awareness amongst staff.
Army Energy ‘spend to save’ initiatives carried out in financial year
2009/10 included lighting upgrades with movement sensors, thermal
insulation for attic space and draught proofing of windows and corridor doors. These projects were carried out within various types of buildings within the Army sites.
The project was commissioned and completed within FY 09/10 with
successful handover to DE Housing. The added benefit of this project was a reduction in running costs to the occupant of the heating installations within their homes.

The Ministry of Defence Mandated Safe Systems of Work apply to specifically defined criteria for Confined Spaces and Restricted High Places. The legacy from the Property Services Agency (PSA) has been carried through into current schedules and registers.The Defence Estates Specification 005 Issue 3 Tasks 530 and 531 gives an item description of “Masts, Towers, Flagpoles and Statues” which is a hangover from PSA. Defence Estates let Project Aquatrine which removed the bulk of the known Permanent Confined Spaces from the Maintenance Management Organisation Contracts.
The UK Ministry of Defence, Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) will cease accrediting training organisations who provide discipline training for the Joint Services Publication (JSP) 375 – Safety manual Volume 3 Safe Systems of Work. The DIO accreditation will cease in July 2011.
